Seattle-based online legal advice marketplace Avvo has raised $17.5 million in a Series D round led by Coatue Management with participation from previous investors Benchmark, Ignition Partners, and DAG Ventures. Avvo is a legal Q&A forum, directory, and legal marketplace that connects hundreds of thousands of consumers with lawyers each month. Launched in 2007, Avvo has raised $60.5 million in funding to date and will use the latest cash to develop its tools for the legal space and expand its reach globally.

New York-based online investment company Betterment has raised $32 million in a Series C funding co-led by Citi Ventures, Globespan Capital Partners, and Northwestern Mutual, with participation from previous investors Bessemer Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, and Anthemis Group. Betterment currently serves 30,000 customers with its web-based money management platform that automates the role of traditional wealth advisors, and has $500 million in assets under management. Founded in 2010, Betterment has raised $45 million to date and will use the new investment to expand its product offering.

New York-based personal finance education startup LearnVest has raised $28 million in a Series D funding led by Northwestern Mutual Capital with Accel Partners and American Express Ventures participating. LearnVest offers a seven-step plan that helps users cut expenses, budget for goals, and invest their money with the assistance of a certified financial planner. Debuted in 2009 at TechCrunch50, LearnVest has raised over $72 million to date and will put the new funds toward hiring and scaling its LearnVest at Work product.
