Mountain View-based social networking app Tango has raised $280 million in a Series D round led by Alibaba Group with participation from existing investors that include DFJ, Qualcomm Ventures, and Jerry Yang. Tango started as a text-based messaging service but added social discovery elements, games, and music content to compete with similar services like WhatsApp, Viber, and WeChat. Founded in 2009, Tango currently hosts more than 200 million registered users and plans to use the new funds to scale up infrastructure and conquer the U.S. messaging market.

Sunnyvale-based business data service LeanData has raised a Series A round of $5.1 million led by Shasta Ventures with participation from Felicis Ventures, Correlation Ventures, and FundersClub. LeanData automates the manual process of matching unconverted leads with customer accounts using a SaaS-based workflow engine. Founded in 2012, LeanData currently serves around 30 customers and will use the money raised to invest in product development and expansion.

San Francisco-based Google Glass app for doctors Augmedix has raised $3.2 million in new funding from DCM, Emergence Capital Partners, Great Oaks Venture Capital, Lifeforce Ventures, and others. Augmedix has created a system that delivers electronic health records to a doctor's Glass device to simplify patient information retrieval. Founded in 2012 by alums of Stanford's Biodesign program and currently being tested in a few pilot studies, Augmedix will use the cash to hire new talent and expand its user base.
