Boston-based next generation cable provider Layer3 TV has raised a $21 million Series A round led by North Bridge Venture Partners and Evolution Media Growth Partners. Previously in stealth mode, Layer3 has only revealed that it seeks to improve the consumer television experience and spearhead a new era of home media. This is the first funding announced for Layer3, founded in 2013 by cable veterans Dave Fellows and Jeff Binder.

Palo Alto-based bitcoin finance and security startup Xapo has raised $20 million in new funding from investors including Benchmark, Fortress Investment Group, and Ribbit Capital. In stealth mode for the past two years, Xapo is now opening up its secure bitcoin management service to consumers. Xapo aims to make bitcoin storage and protection simpler for big banks and individual consumers alike, and will put the $20 million toward building out and supporting security features.

San Francisco-based economic data tracking platform Premise has raised an $11 million Series B round led by Social+Capital Partnership with participation from existing investors Harrison Metal, Google Ventures, and Bowery Capital. Premise is building a platform for corporations, financial service firms, and governments to collect data to track worldwide business and economic conditions in real-time. Premise has raised a total of $16.5 million to date and is currently present in 30 countries.
