Revel Systems sells majority stake
Revel Systems, whose technology turns iPads into point-of-sale terminals, raised what it describes as a “significant growth round” from private equity firm and existing investor Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe, which now owns a majority stake in the company. San Francisco-based Revel, founded in 2010, previously raised about $127 million.
Planet Labs buys Google satellite business
Planet Labs, a startup that operates a network of satellites and sells imagery, is buying Google’s Terra Bella satellite business. Under terms of the deal, Planet will acquire Terra Bella’s constellation of 7 high resolution satellites and will have a multi-year contract to sell imaging data to Google.
Tech companies file brief opposing Trump on immigration
Close to 100 companies, including many technology heavyweights, filed an amicus brief opposing President Trump’s executive order on immigration on the grounds that it is discriminatory and hurts business. Participating tech companies reportedly include Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Uber, Airbnb, Yelp, Pinterest, Netflix and others.
