Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a consortium backed by a long list
comprised mostly of tech billionaires, including Bill Gates, Jack Ma, Vinod Khosla and Jeff Bezos, will put at least $1 billion into cleantech companies developing technologies with potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Microsoft Ventures launches AI fund
Microsoft Ventures has launched a new fund that will invest in artificial intelligence companies. The company also disclosed that it has made several recent investments in the AI space for the fund, including a stake in Element AI, a Montreal-based incubator for AI startups, and Tact, developer of an AI-powered “smart assistant” for salespeople that just announced a $15 million Series B round.
Top tech executives to attend Trump summit
Alphabet CEO Larry Page, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg are among the small group of top tech leaders who will attend a summit with Donald Trump on Wednesday at Trump Tower, according to a Recode report citing unnamed sources. Others previousy reported to be participating include Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella; Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins; IBM CEO Ginni Rometty; Intel CEO Brian Krzanich; and Oracle CEO Safra Catz.
