Zscaler, a seven-year-old cloud security company, announced $100M in new funding yesterday at a valuation above $1B. TPG Growth led the Series B round, with participation from EMC and Lightspeed. DST Global, the venture capital and growth equity firm led by Yuri Milner, has raised $1.7B for its fifth fund, Fortune reported yesterday. DST has backed 30 companies in the last five years, according to CrunchBase, including Facebook, Xiaomi, and Slack. Venture investment in agriculture tech has hit a record high, according to a mid-year report by investment marketplace AgFunder (with help from CrunchBase). In the first half of 2015, AgTech startups raised a total of $2.06B -- just shy of the $2.36B raised in all of 2014. Hunter Walk of Homebrew explains why he feels there is little competition among the 200 "micro VCs" with funds under $100M. Competition at the seed stage isn't about winning deals, he says, but spotting the good deals early and collaborating with other investors.
