China Rapid Finance, the country's largest online consumer lending marketplace, raised $35M in a Series C round led by Broadline Capital at a pre-money valuation of $1B. This makes 13 private China-based unicorns, according to the WSJ's count. Singapore-based Golden Gate Ventures announced its second, $50M fund to support Southeast Asian startups as well as international companies looking to move there. Golden Gate has made 22 investments out of its first fund, according to CrunchBase. Chris McCann of Greylock maps the Internet of Things ecosystem. Even though there are currently more devices connected to the Internet than humans on the planet, McCann says, IoT is still in the early stages of both consumer and enterprise adoption. Benedict Evans of Andreessen Horowitz says that Microsoft today is a case study in knowing when to give up. Mobile is replacing the PC as the dominant computing platform, which means that Microsoft's dominance is a thing of the past.
