New York-based health insurance startup Oscar has raised $80 million in a new funding led by Formation8's Joe Lonsdale with participation from Jim Breyer, Stanley Druckenmiller, Founders Fund, General Catalyst Partners, Khosla Ventures, and Thrive Capital. Oscar's site allows users to enter symptoms, search for doctors and healthcare providers, and compare prices. Launched in October of 2013, Oscar is now valued at nearly $1 billion and will use the new capital to hire talent and offer insurance in new regions outside of New York.

San Francisco-based DNS security provider OpenDNS has raised a $35 million Series C round from Greylock Partners, Sequoia Capital, Sutter Hill Ventures, Glynn Capital, Cisco, Evolution Equity, Lumia Capital, Mohr Davidow Ventures, and Northgate Capital. OpenDNS provides cloud-based enterprise network security to protect businesses and their users across all devices. Founded in 2005, OpenDNS has raised $53 million to date and will use the new funds to hire engineers, invest in R&D, and expand to the East Coast and internationally.

New York-based human resources software service PeopleDoc has raised $17.5 million in a Series B funding led by Accel Partners. PeopleDoc unifies HR operations to increase governance while reducing administrative overhead, leveraging cloud-based technology to integrate and augment existing HR systems. Founded in Paris in 2007, PeopleDoc will use the latest cash to expand its teams and open new offices in the U.K., Germany, and possibly Japan.
