SoftBank is considering making an investment of more than $1 billion into co-working space unicorn WeWork out of its new $100 billion technology fund, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing unnamed sources
Tech opposition to Trump ban grows
Tech industry opposition to Trump’s immigration order is gaining steam among industry executives and employees. More than 2,000 Google employees staged a walkout to protest the ban Monday. Amazon and Expedia joined a Washington state lawsuit challenging the order, with Microsoft voicing support for the suit. Trump’s move had already attracted widespread condemnation from dozens of tech industry leaders.
SoundHound raises $75M for voice AI
SoundHound, a ten-year-old Silicon Valley developer of sound recognition technology, has raised $75 million to develop its voice-enabled AI tools. Backers include the venture arms of strategic investors such as Nvidia and Samsung Catalyst Fund, as well as new and existing VCs including Kleiner Perkins and Walden Venture Capital.
Razer acquires Nextbit Systems
Razer, the developer of devices and software for gamers, has acquired mobile phone developer Nextbit Systems for an undisclosed sum. San Francisco-based Nextbit, founded in 2013, is best known for the Robin smartphone, an Android device that incorporates cloud storage.
