NBCUniversal said to near $200M BuzzFeed deal
NBCUniversal is finalizing a deal to invest around $200 million in BuzzFeed, according to a Recode report citing unnamed sources. The investment would value New York-based Buzzfeed, known for its viral pop culture content and wide social media distribution, at around $1.7 billion. If completed, this would be the second big round for NBCUniveral, which invested $200 million in Buzzfeed in 2015.
Sequoia hires first female U.S. partner, Jess Lee
Sequoia Capital has hired entrepreneur Jess Lee as its newest investment partner, making her the first senior female U.S. investor in the firm’s 44-year history. Lee was a former Google product manager turned CEO of the fashion site Polyvore, which Yahoo acquired for $230 million last year.
Lucid Motors unveils first electric sedan
Electric vehicle technology startup Atieva has changed its name to Lucid Motors and unveiled a prototype of a luxury sedan. The Silicon Valley company, which has raised about $130 million in venture funding, started out as a developer of battery and powertrain technology but later transitioned into automotive design as well.
